SINE Gateway 3 PA Flagship Power Conditioner - A Song of Fire and Ice
Share
Cryogenic freezing technology at extremely low temperatures makes metal conductors more stable. This technology has long been incorporated into high-end audio accessories development, and SINE has become an unmissable name in audiophile accessories through its Cryo-196°C deep freezing technology.
For this test of the SINE Gateway 3 PA flagship power conditioner, I used our latest reference-grade source: the dCS Rossini APEX CD player and streaming player plus the Rossini clock, combined with the Luxman CL-1000 tube pure analog preamplifier and the newly released Luxman 100th Anniversary M-10X power amplifier.
Gateway 3 PA Evolved from S60A Design
Transformation
This is my first encounter with a SINE power conditioner, and it's already the third-generation product. Weighing 24kg, the Gateway 3 PA is significantly larger than the Gateway 2, with power output sockets increased from 8 to 10, all relocated to the back panel. The front panel features diamond-cut facets that create a strong three-dimensional visual effect. The sine wave-inspired logo at the center of the panel lights up when activated - very eye-catching!
The Gateway 3 PA represents a thorough inside-and-out renovation. For this test, I used the Clarus Cable Crimson power cord to supply power to the Gateway 3 PA.
Tube Preamp with Solid-State Power Amp
Choosing a high-end power conditioner is particularly beneficial for audiophiles who rent their homes, as users don't need to modify electrical panels or install dedicated power lines to enjoy their systems worry-free. While the market offers countless power conditioners at various price points, it's worth noting that not all devices labeled as "audiophile power conditioners" will necessarily improve sound quality.
The SINE Gateway 3 PA is undoubtedly worth considering, especially for those running tube preamplifiers with solid-state power amplifiers!
Inherited from SINE S60A
The Gateway 3 PA inherits the popular design of the SINE S60A, utilizing magnetic conduit processing at both the power input and output gates. These front and rear gates eliminate most power noise, with the Gateway 3 PA's processor efficiency being five times higher than the S60A.
Additionally, between the two-stage front and rear gate processing, the Gateway 3 PA incorporates a third stage of processing: the newly developed P-Alloy Core low-voltage DC noise elimination technology, hence the "PA" designation in the model name.
The P-Alloy Core is a multi-structure noise elimination processing technology. The core component is P-Alloy metal, tightly wrapped by a ring-shaped vibration-isolating layer, then covered with a pure copper shielding layer and damping filler, with a special thick aluminum alloy shielding layer on the outside.
Cryo-196°C Deep Freezing Technology
The Gateway 3 PA's back panel features 10 American-style power sockets divided into three sections: one group of four designated for digital sources (sufficient for both two-channel digital equipment and digital audio-visual sources); another group of four sockets for analog equipment power supply (preamplifiers and phono stages can all be connected); and a third group of two high-current power supplies that can accommodate two monoblock amplifiers, or alternatively, one group for a two-channel amplifier and another for a multi-channel amplifier.
The contacts of all 10 sockets use top-grade nano-platinum frozen conductors. SINE emphasizes that their deep freezing technology undergoes 48 hours of freezing treatment to improve the molecular structure of the metal, significantly reducing power transmission impedance and thus lowering audible distortion in sound reproduction.
Furthermore, the internal wiring of the power conditioner first undergoes +700°C high-temperature annealing treatment, then -196°C deep freezing treatment - truly an audiophile's song of fire and ice!
Unibody Chassis Construction
The Gateway 3 PA's front panel uses ultra-thick 24mm aluminum alloy, while the other panels are folded from 4mm thick aluminum alloy into a five-sided seamless chassis. Compared to screw-connected panels, this seamless chassis more effectively isolates external RF interference.
Mineral Sand Particles
When I lifted the Gateway 3 PA vertically to photograph it, I suddenly heard the sound of sand particles. It turns out the chassis is also filled with natural mineral sand particles. These mineral sand particles not only enhance the treatment of internal wiring resonance and vibration but also help eliminate EMI electromagnetic interference that might enter the chassis. Additionally, safety is a key design focus, with internal surge protection and lightning protection circuitry!
Listening Impressions
I connected the source, clock, tube preamp, and solid-state power amp all through the Gateway 3 PA for power. Even before conducting A/B comparisons, I could confirm that the Gateway 3 PA truly excels in achieving a pitch-black background. The word "clean" immediately came to mind. Two other sets of descriptors that struck me were "elegant" and "strong sense of three-dimensionality." Then, my impression was that the music was smooth and detailed, with full texture - an overall performance that was gentle and refined, emotionally rich, and even sensually moving.
Conducting A/B comparisons, the Gateway 3 PA's cleanliness, sense of three-dimensionality, coherence, and refinement were unquestionable. Regarding power amplifier performance, I believe it's particularly suitable for those who have grown tired of overly dominant, aggressive power amplifiers - its gentleness, elegance, and restraint will make your system feel refreshingly renewed!
Lively and Spirited
For the power amplifier in front of me, I particularly enjoyed the effect of having the source, clock, preamp, and power amp all drawing power through the Gateway 3 PA. With it, the music was spirited and radiant, especially making lively, cheerful music present a feeling that genuinely lifted my mood. To be frank, power conditioners that truly make me feel exhilarated after listening are not many - the Gateway 3 PA's performance left a deep impression on me and is among my favorite audiophile power conditioners!
Stronger Imaging
Listening to Jazz World Records' "Enrico Pieranunzi, Marc Johnson, Joey Baron play Morricone," when I let the equipment draw power through the Gateway 3 PA, harmonics were noticeably clearer with stronger extension. Different cymbals in the drum kit had sharper, more three-dimensional tones with distinct layering. Piano key movements were richer in detail with form full of three-dimensionality, and bass layering became more vivid and detailed.
From Refinement to Coherence
Listening to Alexandre Tharaud's "Brahms," his performance of Brahms has a fantastical quality - mysterious, ethereal, fascinating. The changes in musical nuances were abundant in detail. The tonal character wasn't altered, yet both micro-dynamics and macro-dynamics achieved stronger expression. The sonic contrast intensified, speed increased, and the atmosphere and musical charm naturally penetrated deeper into the heart.
Immersed in the Music
I believe whether to connect the power amplifier through the Gateway 3 PA clearly depends on personal taste preferences. However, when the source, clock, and preamp draw power through it, the music's soundstage three-dimensionality, expression ability from soft to loud dynamics, and emotional connection to the music are spot-on. I can say that after drawing power through it, I became fully immersed in different types of music - the more I listened, the more engaged I became; the more I listened, the more energized I felt; the more I listened, the happier I became!
