Furutech DF-2 LP Flattener

DF-2 Vinyl LP Flattening System: Technical Specification and Performance
The DF-2 is an engineered solution for the rectification of vinyl record warpage, presenting a one-stop, one-button mechanism for controlled flattening. This device addresses macro-level warps and micro-level surface irregularities that disrupt stable cartridge/tonearm tracking.

Acoustic Rationale for Flattening

LP warps introduce significant perturbations into the playback system:

  • VTA (Vertical Tracking Angle) Variance: Unlike tracking a planar surface, warpage prevents the tonearm/cartridge from maintaining a parallel relationship with the LP surface, leading to continuous, unwanted changes in VTA across the rotation cycle.

  • VTF (Vertical Tracking Force) Modulation: As the cartridge tracks the ascending slope of a warp, it experiences an increased $\text{VTF}$ load. Conversely, traversing the descending slope results in an unloading effect, leading to a temporary $\text{VTF}$ deficit.

These dynamic fluctuations compromise signal fidelity, inducing degradation in tonal quality, imaging, and soundstage characteristics. Flattening the record restores stable tracking, minimizing distortion.

Operational and Mechanical Features

  • Technology: The DF-2 utilizes an improved film heating technology to optimize the entire thermal cycle (heating and subsequent cooling) for precise, controlled LP flattening.

  • User Interface: Operation is initiated via a single button. An integrated LCD display provides real-time progress monitoring, with an auditory indicator signaling cycle completion.

  • Ergonomics: The unit is designed for space-saving vertical storage when inactive.

  • Predecessor: The DF-2 is an enhanced iteration, succeeding the original DFV-1 model.

Safe Usage Environment:
Humidity 20% – 90% (No condensation)
Temperature: 5C/41F – 35C/95F
